About MHS
Welcome to Mason High School
We educate the district's 9-12 grade students. Hope Squad is a mental health awareness and peer to peer suicide prevention program at Mason High School and Mason Middle School. Squad members have been anonymously nominated by their peers. Hope Squad's mission is to eliminate the stigma surrounding mental health and to promote this message to the community as well as within the schools.
Mason High School Hope Squad meets during school four times a week. All squad members are trained in the methods of QPR (question, persuade, refer) and SOS (signs of suicide). Along with that, the squad completes a mental health curriculum for teenagers.
Within MHS Hope Squad, we have developed and work through six different committees. Split up into events, service & operations, social media, in school, out of school, and education & training, this helps our activities run smoothly and provides our members with leadership opportunities.
Mason City Schools has been committed to providing unique learning experiences for our high school students through real world experiences and in-school internships. Mason High School is proud to partner with Fifth Third Bank in order to operate Comet Savings & Loan. CS&L has 9 departments, with 29 student managers and an additional 29 student employees working to manage, operate, and market the school bank. Our departments include personal banking, operations, finance, marketing, analytics, auditing, communications, compliance, and special projects. The bank allows for all MHS students & staff to open accounts, transact, and receive instant loans, while the employees operate and handle a real world bank environment as well as assist and work with student and staff customers. CS&L has proudly been in business since 2002 and looks forward to the continued success in the upcoming years.
