Standardized Testing
End of Course Exams (EOC)
Ohio’s End of Course Exams are state-required assessments given in specific high school courses, including English II, Algebra I, Geometry, Biology, American History, and American Government. EOC exams measure student understanding of course standards and are part of Ohio’s graduation requirements. Students typically take these exams at the end of the course, most commonly between freshman and junior year.
Students must earn a score of 684 on the English II and Algebra I exams in order to graduate, and each test can be taken multiple times if needed. Students who do not earn this score should meet with their counselor to work toward an alternative pathway for graduation.

PSAT/NMSQT
The PSAT/NMSQT is a practice version of the SAT that helps students prepare for future college entrance exams while also identifying academic strengths and areas for growth. The PSAT is taken during junior year and serves as the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. Testing usually takes place in October and is for juniors only.

ACT
The ACT is a college entrance exam that measures skills in English, math, reading, and science, with an optional writing section. Many colleges and universities accept ACT scores as part of the admissions process. Students often begin taking the ACT during the spring of junior year and may retake it during senior year to improve scores.

SAT
The SAT is a standardized college entrance exam that assesses reading, writing, and math skills. Colleges and universities may use SAT scores as part of admissions and scholarship consideration. Students commonly take the SAT during the spring of junior year and may test again in the fall of senior year.

Advanced Placement (AP) Exams
AP Exams are college-level assessments connected to Advanced Placement courses offered at Mason High School. Students who earn qualifying scores may receive college credit or advanced placement at many colleges and universities. AP Exams are administered each May following completion of the AP course.

ASVAB
The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) is a career exploration and aptitude assessment that helps students identify strengths and potential career pathways. While commonly associated with military career options, the ASVAB is also a valuable tool for students exploring a wide range of career interests and postsecondary opportunities. Students often take the ASVAB during junior or senior year.

AVANT STAMP (Seal of Biliteracy)
The AVANT STAMP assessment measures proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in a world language. Students may take the assessment to qualify for Ohio’s Seal of Biliteracy, which recognizes high levels of proficiency in two or more languages. Testing timelines vary, but students commonly complete the assessment during junior or senior year.
